The Address Task Force depends on a variety of open data sources to build the address data theme. A key part of this process is evaluating data licenses to ensure they align with Overture’s requirements. However, many open datasets lack clear licensing terms, raising questions about their permissibility and potential risks.
Can data without explicit usage licenses be included? What are the legal and operational risks? Are there opportunities to establish best practices for working with ambiguously licensed data?
This session will begin with a brief overview of common open data licenses and the challenges they present, followed by a panel discussion exploring potential solutions, industry standards, and strategies for navigating the licensing gap.
